Junior Match Reports13th Metro vs Fencible 4/9 at Greenmount Reserve Barcelona turned up for the final game of the season, at a windswept park, determined to finish the season on a high. The field we had to play on was in poor condition with a big mud patch in one half. We kicked off into the strong wind and tried to play the ball around. After 10 mins Kian and George made some good passes and released Troy who ran into the box and got tripped up but before hitting the ground, managed to poke the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 to Forrest Hill. Soon after this Troy had to go off injured, oh no !! The goal sparked Fencibles into life and they attacked our goal with David M making 2 great saves. Fencibles snuck in a goal and then quickly got another one from a header. Poor Mitch got a whack in the nose and Sean came on at right back for his first game in 4 weeks. We went to half time 2-1 down but still confident because in the next half we would have the strong wind behind us. 2nd Half. We began the half strong and after 5 mins Harry ran down the left wing, cut inside his man and smashed the ball into the into the back of the net off the crossbar. 2-2 to Forrest Hill. Mike and David B started to dominate the midfield and this pressure saw David hit the ball into the back of the net with his left foot. 3-2 to us. Ryan & Reece kept working hard on the right side but the muddy patch didn't help them much. The whole team lifted the pace and this resulted in Kian getting a great header and Harry lobbing the keeper from 5m. 5-2 to FHM. Our final goal was a real team effort, started by Liam, Hamish and Cole from the back, passed out to Harry who ran down the left wing and drove the ball across the box for Kian to smash past the keeper…what a goal !! 6-2 By Sean 13th Metro vs Waitakere City - Saturday 28th of August
Forrest Hill 13th Metro arrived at Fred Taylor Park needing a win for a chance at winning the championship. We had Joey (From the 12th grade team) stepping in for the absence of Cole. We started the game with both teams having some good runs. Waitakere's striker had a shot from outside of the box which looked like it was going in until the wind curved it away. 15 minutes into the game and George whipped in a nice low cross to the edge of the box for Troy to put away. 1-0. We had a few more chances before the end of the first half but couldn't put them away. 2nd Half Waitakere started the second half strongly wanting to get some goals back after conceding the first goal of the match. The second goal came in about 10 minutes into the second half for Waitakere after a lack of communication and confusion amongst us while the player just tapped it into the back of the net. 1-1. We then started again with a great through ball to me (Kian) by David B but unfortunately I couldn't deliver it into the box. A few minutes after that Waitakere passed the ball across goal by a error and they scored again. End Score: 3-1 Waitakere By Kian 13th Metro vs Albany - 21st August
On the 21st August we all turned up to Sunnynook. In the first half I think we started well. Michael had a great shot - it went over the top of their keeper and curled into the top left corner. Albany then got a penalty from an unlucky handball from Mike and they put it in the goal. Then we scored again and we went into half time at 2-1. At the beginning of the second half I think we struggled because the field was awful. The reason I think we struggled is because we usually have a passing orientated game and we could not do that because of the fields. Forest Hill got a penalty and Troy stepped up to the mark and he safely put it in the back of the net. Troy was unlucky not to get another penalty in the first half when he was chopped down in the box but unfortunately he was offside earlier (apparently). Near the end of the second half I think we picked up our game because we thought about the way we should play in the bad conditions. For our fourth and final goal David Brown put a beautiful ball in and that just left Harry to put it in the back of the net, which he did. End score 4-1 to Forest Hill, lucky for Albany we were playing on an awful field otherwise we would have destroyed them. I think we should have worn flippers instead of boots !!!!! By Reece 13th Metro vs North Force 15th Aug
The day began with a long trip to Whangarei where we would play Northern Force. The game started with some good attacks from Forresthill and crosses from the wings, which paid off when David B picked up a loose ball in the box and slotted it in the back of the net. 1-0. Then came another attack where George linked up well with Forresthill were looking like a compact unit with Michael, Reece, Mitch and Harry showing some great touches. Hamish and Liam were solid in defence. Northern were not the “Force” we had thought, and in the second half Michael thumped in the 3rd for FHM..The 4th came from a Hamish strike which deflected off the post for Kian to finish. To celebrate our victory we all went for lunch at the Pizza Barn in Waipu. By David Masters (Goalkeeper) 15th August 2010
13th Metro Forrest Hill vs. Western Springs at On a morning when everyone thought the game would have been cancelled due to wet weather and a grotty pitch the game was played. Maybe because there have been too many cancellations, maybe for another few reasons I don't know, I don't really care either! Back to the game. Both teams knew it was going to be a hard game after the last clash between these sides ended in a nail biting 3-2 win for Western Springs. The pitch itself had a very muddy patch down the middle and right on the sidelines it was very muddy as well. So practically in those 2 strips of available playing grass is where we had to play. The game kicked off with most of the possession going with FHM and the counter attack every now and then from Western Springs. The possession for FHM soon turned into one on ones and before you knew it FHM were up through George. Before half time Kian had followed up a shot from Half Time Forrest Hill 2-0 Western Springs During half time Grant told us to try and slot in1 more quick goal and the game was won. And if I can remember correctly he said that they would be thinking “what the hell's just happened”?! Shortly after the break after a few more one on ones George chipped the keeper and we were up by 3! After that the goals kept coming, Ryan chipped the keeper again and Forrest Hill 5-1 Western Springs By David Brown Match report 31 July FHM The Forrest Hill 13th Metro team arrived at Papakura army camp ready to grab 3 points and stay top 3 on the table. Weather conditions were good but the pitch was not so flash being very bumpy and narrow. 1st half: Papakura kicked off and Forrest Hill went straight in to get possession. FHM had a great first 15 minutes with some good chances. Michael G narrowly missing 1 or 2, and David B putting some great balls through to George and Then, from about 20 odd metres out a free kick was given to Papakura and it was struck powerfully into the top corner! 1-0 Papakura. About 8 minutes later a free kick was given to Forrest Hill from far out and Troy stepped up to take it and hit it brilliantly, just so it dipped under the crossbar and over the goalies head 1-1. After a few more minutes the whistle to signal the end of the 1st half was blown. 2nd half: At 1-1 the game was all tied up and Forrest Hill needed to score with no answer to take out the game. A while after kick off Dave B received the ball in a nice position and sent a pitch perfect ball for A big congratulations to Good luck!!! BY LIAM ANDERSEN. We all turned up at Pt. England Reserve where it had been changed to. We had a good warm up then Nigel told us the line up. The whistle blew and the game was off. We started off a bit shaky but settled it down and moved the ball nicely. Ellerslie's number 7 got a couple of breaks and he out- paced all of us like we weren't moving! An unlucky strike from the biggest kid I have ever seen but that's probably just me because I'm tiny - aye Troy? Then a couple minutes later the number 7 got a break away and scored, the whistle blew for the end of the first half and we were down 2-0. Nigel gave us a great talk and we came out with the big guns firing, everyone was on form. The mid was great at holding the ball and then getting rid of it and defenders and attackers were great too. Near the end of the game we were on FIRE! George skilled the defence and everyone were on their feet but George just pushed it wide - unlucky G dog! With about 3 mins in game left, a great through ball was played from a big kick by David M - got big Harry on his toes, he skinned the defence and put it bottom right! WHAT A GOAL! What a star or “You beast” as Briggs would say. We had so many opportunities but didn't finish them. Unlucky boys, well fought game. We won the second half 1-0! Final score 1-2 loss. By MITCHELL WHITEHEAD OR MINI M BUT MAYBE NOT.
MATCH REPORT 3.7.2010 - 13th Metro vs ECB (the enemy!) In the first half I thought we started well. We had many opportunities. ECB had only one or two chances and they scored from one of those chances, I also think we deserved more than two goals going into the break (2-1) Great goals Liam & Troy. I think at half time we must have had a superb talk from Nigel and Grant because something got us ready to perform (I was warming up to go on for the 2nd half). In the start of the second half we were playing well. We were holding the ball until we got opportunities and we also were playing good balls up to George. David was fabulous in goal with a couple of world class saves. Well done David. We shut ECB down and won the second half decisively 4-0 (1 for Troy, 1 for Harry and 2 for me.) It was a total team effort and a well deserved win against our archrivals. Our defense was outstanding, our midfield dominating and our attack was firing! By Reece Matuschka
